Cross-Curricular Citizen Science Project
750 tons of plastic is thought to be dumped in our oceans daily (Jambeck et al., 2015). Plastics break up into ‘microplastics’, these microplastics are able to find their way into our food system via aquatic and bird life. A single litre of seawater can contain 8.3 million particles of microplastics. This portable device has the ability to extract microplastics from sediments samples. The device in conjunction with a 30 page activity book aims to assist educators and environmentalist in the education of plastics pollution.
